It's that time of year again! The grape harvest is well and truly underway in Wellington. The whole town is buzzing with the rumble of tractors, towing trailers of freshly picked grapes, depositing them to the 30+ wine farms in Wellington. In fact, you can stand at any point in Wellington and breathe deeply and you'll be able to smell the grapes starting the process of being turned into some of the greatest wines created in the whole of South Africa (if not the world!).

Wellington has always been the 'best kept secret' of the Winelands but we are starting to make headway! Wellington won the top prize in the 2010 SA Terroir Awards and came 2nd in 2011. Many of the wines produced here have won numerous awards and accolades and in March there will be the opportunity to sample the best that this sleepy, farming town has to offer.

Wellington's Harvest Festival 2012 on the 17th-18th March, sees the town throw open it's door in welcome to a host of visitors, from all over the country, eager to try some of the great products that Wellington has to offer. There will be live music, potjie kos competitions and numerous other events as well as the all important opportunity to sample some of these fantastic wines and brandies.

This will be my first year where 5 Mountains will not be involved in the Festival and so I'm looking forward to getting out there and trying these wines for myself!
